The text is tokenised, very common function words are dropped, and the remaining words and phrases are counted against the total word count. Density is occurrences divided by total words.
Density is a diagnostic, not a target. If a page's most frequent phrases do not match its subject, the copy has drifted. Chasing a specific percentage does not help: Google has evaluated meaning and context rather than term counts for many years.
Paste a service page before publishing and check whether its most frequent phrases match the subject you intended.
Useful for content editors, SEO teams and anyone tightening the focus of an existing page.
The most common mistake is treating an old rule of thumb such as "aim for 2%" as a goal. No such threshold was ever confirmed, and writing toward it makes copy read badly. The second is seeing a high count for your own brand name and treating it as a problem, which on a corporate page it usually is not.
The tool sees only the text you paste. It does not read headings, link anchors, image alt text or competing pages, and it does not merge stems or synonyms: "software" and "softwares" count separately.
Text is discarded after processing; only an anonymised run record is kept.
There isn't one. Google has never published a density threshold and modern evaluation is based on meaning, not term counts. Use density as a signal that copy has drifted off topic, not as a goal.
High density alone is not a penalty trigger. The problem appears when repetition makes the text read unnaturally to a person.
No. Each word is counted as written; no stemming or synonym grouping is applied.
